by Joe Nichols – Key of C

“Mama Jaymes was a teetotaler. She was a little Baptist lady that never drank. So imagine my surprise when this song came out and she liked it! She said it ‘tickled’ her. My mom had a wonderful sense of humor and I am so blessed that she passed that along to me. So, as I play this song today, I am sending a ‘hello and love you’ toward Heaven. Miss you Mama. Nashville songwriters Gary Hannan and John Wiggins, (who, along with his sister Audrey, performed in the mid-1990s as the country duo John and Audrey Wiggins) wrote this song. When we spoke with Joe Nichols, he explained: ‘They wrote it on a cocktail napkin as they were getting drunk.’

[C] She said, I’m goin’ out with [F] my girl- [C] -friends, for margaritas at the [G] Holiday [C] Inn.   [C] Oh, have mercy my [F] only thought was [C] “Tequila makes her [G] clothes fall [C] off.”

[C] I told her put an extra [F] layer [C] on.  I know what happens when she [G] drinks [C] patron.   [C] Her closets missin’ half the [F] stuff she [C] bought, yea, tequila makes her [G] clothes fall [C] off.
[CHORUS] – – – – – [F] She’ll start by kickin’ [C] out of her shoes.  [G] Lose an earring in her [C] drink.    [F] Leave her JACKET in the [C] bathroom stall.  [F] Drop a contact down the [G] sink.

[C] Them pantyhose ain’t gonna [F] last too [C] long if the DJ puts Bon [G] Jovi [C] on  [C] She might come home in a [F] table- [C] -cloth, cause tequila makes her [G] clothes fall [C] off

[C] She can handle any [F] Champagne [C] brunch. Bridal shower with [G] Barcadi [C] punch.    [C] Jello shooters [F] full of [C] Smirnoff, but tequila makes her [G] clothes fall [C] off.
[CHORUS] – – – – –

[C] She don’t mean nothin’ she’s just [F] havin’  [C] fun.  Tomorrow she’ll say, oh, what [G] have I [C] done  [C] Friends will joke about the [F] stuff she [C] lost, yea, tequila makes her [G] clothes fall [C] off . . .  [Am] Oh, [C] tequila makes her [G] clothes fall [C] off. . . .  [Am] Oh, [C] tequila makes her [G] clothes fall [C] off.
