by Bill Withers – Key of D

This song has a very broad appeal, as people from just about any background can relate to the lyrics. It was a hit on a variety of formats and did well all over the US and throughout much of the world. Withers told us: “It’s a rural song that translates across demographic lines. Who could argue with the fact that it would be nice to have somebody who really was that way? My experience was, there were people who were that way.”

[C] Sometimes in our [F] lives. we all have [C] pain, we all have [Em] sorrow[G]. [C] But if we are [F] wise we really know [C] know that there’s always [G7]tomorrow [C]

[CHORUS] – – – – [C] Lean on me, when you’re not [F] strong; and I’ll be your [C] friend, I’ll help you [Em] carry [G] on. [C] For it won’t be [F] long ’til I’m gonna [C] need Somebody to [G7] lean [C] on.

[C] Please swallow your [F] pride. If I have [C] things you need to [Em] borrow [G] – [C] For no one can [F] fill those of your [C] needs that you won’t [G7] let show [C]

REPRISE HOOK
You just [C] call on me brother, when you need a hand. We all [C] need somebody to [G7] lean [C] on.  I just [C] might have a problem that you’ll understand. We all [C] need somebody to [G7] lean [C) on.
