by Willie Nelson – Key of A

This was written by the songwriting trio of Johnny Christopher, Mark James and Wayne Carson Thompson. Wayne Carson wrote this song in ten minutes at his kitchen table in Missouri. He completed it in the studio with the help of Johnny Christopher and Mark James. It was originally recorded by Brenda Lee in 1971.

[C] Maybe I didn’t [G] love you, [Am] quite as [C] often as I [F] could have.    [C] And maybe I didn’t [G] treat you, [Am] quite as [C] good as I [D] should have.
[F] If I made you feel [C] second best; [F] girl I’m [C] sorry I was [Dm] blind.  [G] But you were always on my [C7] mind.  [F] You were [G] always on my [C] mind. [ F G ]

And [C] maybe I didn’t [G] hold you, [Am] all those [C] lonely, lonely [F] times.  [C] I guess I never [G] told you, [Am] I am so happy that you’re [D] mine.
[F] Little things I should have [C] said and done.   [F] I just [C] never took the [Dm] time.   [G] You were always on my [C7] mind.  [F] You were [G] always on my [C] mind. [G]

[ C G ] Tell [ Am C ] me – – [F] Tell me that your [C] sweet love hasn’t [Dm] died [G]   And [ C G ] give [ Am C ] me – – Give me [F] one more chance to [C] keep you [Dm] satisfied.   I’ll [G] keep you [C] satisfied.

[F] Little things I should have [C] said and done.   [F] I just [C] never took the [Dm] time.   [G] You were always on my [C7] mind.  [F] You were [G] always on my [C] mind. [G]

[G] You were always on my [C7] mind.  [F] You were [G] always on my [C] mind. [G]
