by Don McClean – Key of A

And I Love You So” is a popular song written by folk singer and guitarist Don McLean and released on his 1970 debut album, Tapestry. Its chorus features an unusual rhyming scheme for a popular song: A-B-B-A versus the usual A-B-C (or A)-B.
The song has been recorded by many artists in the years since McLean’s original version. It was a 1973 hit for singer Perry Como on his RCA Victor album of the same name, And I Love You So, reaching No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It would be the last of his many popular recordings, dating back to 1943, to reach the Top 40. It also spent one week at No. 1 on the easy listening chart. It reached No. 2 in South Africa and in Britain, the record reached No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart on RCA Records and remained on the chart for 35 weeks (the longest of his hits in the UK).

[G] And I love you [Am] so.  The people [Am7] ask me [Gm7] how . . .  [Em] How I’ve lived till [Am7] now.  [C] I tell them I don’t [D7] know.
[G] I guess they [Am] understand, [Am7] how lonely life has [G] been . . .  But [Em] life began [Am7] again – [C] The day you took my [G] hand

And [G] yes, I know how [Am7] lonely life can be.  The [D7] shadows follow me, and the [G7] night won’t [C] set me [G] free.  . . . . But [GMAJ7] I don’t [EM] let the [Am7] evening get me down,  [D7] now that you’re [G7] around [G] me.

[G] And you love me [Am] too. Your [Am7] thoughts are just for [G] me. . . . [Em] You set my spirit [Am7] free.   I’m [C] happy that you [D] do.

The [G] book of life is [Am] brief.  And [Am7] once a page is [G] read,   [Em] all but love is [Am7] dead [C] That is my [G] belief.

And [G] yes, I know how [Am7] loveless life can be.  The [D7] shadows follow me, and the [G7] night won’t [C] set me [G] free.  . . . . But [GMAJ7] I don’t [Em] let the [Am7] evening get me down,  [D7] now that you’re [G7] around [G] me.

[G] And I love you [Am] so.  The people [Am7] ask me [Gm7] how . . .  [Em] How I’ve lived till [Am7] now.  [C] I tell them I don’t [D7] know.
